In the aftermath of one of the most brutal presidential election campaigns in modern history, many questions are yet being asked that are nearly impossible to answer. Questions like, “How could this have happened?” and “What do we do now?”
continue to challenge us emotionally and psychologically. But I have a question that I believe is far more significant than these; “What will the people of God do now?” Could this be the golden opportunity for the Church, the followers of Church to impact our nation with the love of God through the Gospel of Christ?
Could this be the wake-up call for the sleeping giant, the people of God to shake off the blinders and embrace the time that is at hand? I am convinced that it is! For too long we have quoted II Chronicles 7:14, but have done little to fulfill this command of God,
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
Amid the uncertainties and anger that have gripped America since November 8th, the time is perfect for something that is a symbol of stability or someone who provides hope for the future. The only one that I know that can do this is God through His
Son, Christ. Thus, the Church who is supposed to be the personification of all that God is must rise up and take advantage of what I believe is its greatest opportunity for change.
With this in mind, and being led of God I have repeatedly suggested it is time for a national revival. It is time for the heart of this nation to be turned back to God. But more important, it is time for the hearts of God’s people to be turned back to Him. In fact, revival must start at the house of God before it can flow into the world. Regardless of who is in the White House, this is the plan of God for the Church house.
And God’s instructions for revival are simple. He calls His people to humility and prayer; to seek Him and turn for sin. It is then and only then can He heal America. But it has to be “His people”. What an awesome call on our lives. We have been called to change this world! Thus, it is not a time to panic and operate in fear; instead is our day to stand and be bold, “for the Lord is with us.”
